Remembering India

This week marks 1 year since my return from India. Once I cut of my hair, it felt freeing. A new start for me; Mind, Body & Soul. As I began my Kurly Journey I was Blessed to travel to Mumbai, India. After making the 22 hour trip, I was greeted by my two friends, who were so generous enough to invite me. I was hosted by the most Beautiful couple. They welcomed me into their home for 3 weeks.

I was so scared to my Big Chop; I was afraid of what people were going say, how they would react at work, and how I would look.  But after making the decision to JUST DO IT, I swear things started happening. It's like the universe could see my new found confidence and this opportunity presented itself.  The best way to describe it was like EAT, PRAY, LOVE. I made this trip alone without my husband, a huge decision to travel to the other side of the world by myself. Of course he was supportive, but this was an awesome chance for me to focus on me. I learned to Meditate. The goal of meditation is to focus and quiet your mind, eventually reaching a higher level of awareness and inner calm.  As you grow more mature and learn to really get in touch with who you, I wonder am I living my best life?  The world is so much bigger than where you are, I am glad I am able to go and see it.

My living space while in India was relaxing and homie. My host resides in a two bedroom apartment with large windows that invited in the sun everyday. It was very nice and peaceful, but at night, I could hear the beeping of Tuk Tuks as the Indain winds flowed over my bed.

Decoration consisted of Gurus and family photos. Wooden furniture, marble floors and colorful fabrics. I was fascinated and thankful to be in the authentic native space.

Located on the 4th floor the view was of the streets Thane.  Thane, Maharashtra which is located about 30 minutes outside of the city.  From my window I could see the mountain in Sanjay Gandhi National Park.

Rod Set on Natural Hair

Winter is here Hunny! I saw the weather report last night which forecasted that the temperature was going to drop to 20 degrees.

I needed to do something to my head for work after being fro'd out over the weekend.

Since it was going to be cold today, I knew that I did not want to wash my hair and go out with wet hair. So I decided to do a Rod Set.

What you will need:
1. A spray bottle (I just used my Rose water)
2. Leave in Conditioner of your choice.
3. Gel of Choice
4. Hair Clips
5. Perm Rod Rolloers (I used Purple, Orange, & White)

Began by sectioning hair and detangle. Then take a part to roll and dab with a bit of Leave in Conditioner and the gel then smooth through to the ends.  Take Perm Rod, wrap and roll hair.

It should look like this.

It took me about 2 hours to Roll my whole head.

Since my hair was damp from spraying it in order to detangle, I slept in the rods to air dry.
The next morning I took down my hair. I oiled my fingers with some Coconut oil and separated my Kurls

Happy Kurlyversary!! (1yr Naturally Kurly)

I celebrated my 1 year Kurlyversary on Dec. 8th. To commemorate this milestone, I treated myself to a Blowout and Trim.

This past year has been truly an awesome experience.  Since my Big Chop my hair has grown so thick and healthy and my Kurls are simply Gorgeous!! During this past year I have colored my hair, but have not trimmed, just in an effort to see how long I could get it in a year.
Also, I waited until the Full Moon to trim my hair.  I do believe in the energy of the universe.

This week was the perfect week. I went in for my Trim and Style on December 17th, which was the "Full Moon in Gemini".  I thought, "Wow", this 1st year journey came right back to me.  I am a Gemini. For more information on Trimming according to the Moon visit www.hairbrained.me.

I called my friend and Stylist Mona, here's how it all went down.

We started with a Cleanse and Condition.
Then the Blowout!!

After Bow drying, she flat ironed my hair to trim.

She trimmed about an inch and a half to restore the ends. I do have layers, so if I want to go straight again, it will have shape.

Here's the finished look.

Thanks Mona, I love it.
Kurlies, I do recommend a Blowout at least twice a year for trimming and length check. My hair has really grown a lot since last December. I want to grow my hair as healthy as possible, so this was a great decision.

Happy Holidays Curlfriends!

Natural Hair Accessories

It's always fun to accessorize.  This week it has been cool out side and I wanted to protect my curls.  I did a Flexirod set on my hair. But these Kurls don't want to be contained.

I love this scarf I purchased at the Thrift store.

I watched this video by fellow Curlfriend Samantha Pollack and got inspired.

Love in Color

I get bored easy! Does anybody else?  After 5 months of new growth I colored my hair. Taadaa!

I used Honey Blonde (Cream of Nature).  It was a crowd pleaser.  I was a bit scared at first, especially with some Naturals giving me the side eye cuz I wanted to color my hair.  I did some research before I did it.  I looked at YouTube.  I saw many Curlies coloring with box color with no problem.  The main thing to consider is  keeping the hair moisturized.

Look at my inspiration, I am growing steady.

Although this color was pretty, I wanted to go a few shades lighter.  So I colored again after 7 months. I purchased the "Kaleidocolors by Clairol"

It"s a Bleach and it gave me the lift I was looking for.

I did not dye my roots.

So after all of that I deep conditioned for 45 mins.

I love it!!
