Kronikle Beginnings (4 Part How To Series)

I am excited to share my Kronikle Beginnings series. I have recorded my four part series to demonstrate how I Pre-Poo, Deep Condition, and Style my Wash & Go.

Series Videos:

Introduction - This video explains what to expect from the series.  The series covers my monthly routine.  I do this routine once a monthly usually around the 15th.  I start by doing a Pre-Poo.

Part 2 - Pre-Poo is the short term for Pre Shampooing, which is the process of conditioning and adding moisture to your hair before you shampoo. You can take a mixture of oils to perform this, I use the following:

1 Tbsp. - Castor oil
1 Tbsp. -  Grape seed oil
1 Tbsp. - Tea tree oil
1 Tbsp. - Vitamin E oil

I mix this in an application bottle and apply throughout. I then place a shower cap over my hair and let it sit for at least 30 minutes, so that oil can penetrate the hair.  After this step I rinse and shampoo with Terressentials Mud Wash.

Part 3 - DIY Deep Conditioner

After I have completed the Pre-Poo and wash, I do a deep conditioning/protein treatment for my hair to add level 3 moisture before styling for the week.

Deep Conditioner Recipe:
4 Scoops of mayonnaise
2 eggs
3 Tbsp. of Honey
1 Tsp. of my Pre-Poo oil

Part 4 - Style your Wash & Go

I know that we have just completed a lengthy process, but it is all worth it. Once I complete my monthly routine I maintain by Ko-Washing, using my Moisture Mix Spray, and my curl cream also my Homemade Shea Butter mix which will be an up coming video.

With that being said my wash & go routine in Part 4 is 3 easy steps.

1. On damp hair I smooth my curl cream throughout
2. Spray any areas that are drying as you work you way around your head.
3. Apply gel on top of the curl cream by smoothing through the hair.

DIY: Ultimate Moisturizing Spray

I posted a photo on my Instagram of my Frozen Homemade Moisturizing Spray this past winter, then I had a few questions about what it was. So I am going to share what I use.

I researched Moisturizing Spray after seeing Naturals on YouTube spritzing their hair before styling. Then in an attempt to use "All Natural" Products, lol quotes, as I am a Modified Kurly Girl. I saw a video on this spray, and decided to try it. I tried the water and essential oil first. It worked for my hair instantly. I tried it on a Wash & Go and I boy, my kurls came right back to life. So after running out of the spray I mixed up another bottle, the next time I adding the Conditioner to use as a Detangler and it really helped too. So now, it's a staple in My Kurly Girl Routine. I believe that the essentials oils that I use and the vegetable glycerin is what has kept my kurls soft to the touch.

Sister's Network Inc. 5th Annual "Stop the Silence Breast Cancer 5K Walk"

I can't believe it's April already.  Every year I look forward to the Sister's Network Inc. Annual "Stop the Silence Breast Cancer 5K Walk".  This year I went with a co-worker; normally I walk on my Mother's Team,  this year I have been a bit busy, but next year I plan to have my own team.  It's awesome to see that this event is getting bigger every year.  I love to see so many Black women coming together for a great cause.

At age 16, Breast Cancer made it's way into my family. My grandmother was diagnosed with it, and Thank God technology was advanced enough to catch it before it was too late. I just remember thinking, Is she going to die?  What does this mean? At that time I knew Breast Cancer as a White women's issue. This was in the early 90's, before the Pink ribbons and walks. Since Breast Cancer has effected so many women, of all races, we now have this awareness and prevention effort.  Then my mother was diagnosed in 2005, even closer to home. She like my grandmother had a biopsy first, then a two week wait to see if it is Benign,  it was not, and then off to the operating room for a Mastectomy. It was no time to even digest the diagnosis, just Wham! We need to cut off your breast.  It was scary.  Then Chemo and losing her hair.  Glory be to GOD, my mother is an 8 yr. Survivor now.

I am a high risk candidate for Breast Cancer since both my mother and grandmother survived it. So it is nice to know that Organizations like Sister's Network exist.

Sisters Network® Inc. is committed to increasing local and national attention to
the devastating impact that breast cancer has in the African American community.

Sisters Network® Inc., founded in 1994 by breast cancer survivor Karen E. Jackson, is a leading voice and only national African American breast cancer survivorship organization in the United States. With Karen E. Jackson serving as Chair and CEO, Sisters Network is governed by an elected Board of Directors and assisted by an appointed medical advisory committee. Membership is 3,000, which includes more than 40 survivor-run affiliate chapters in 22 states nationwide. The organization's purpose is to save lives and provide a broader scope of knowledge that addresses the breast cancer survivorship crisis affecting African American women around the country. Remembering India

This week marks 1 year since my return from India. Once I cut of my hair, it felt freeing. A new start for me; Mind, Body & Soul. As I began my Kurly Journey I was Blessed to travel to Mumbai, India. After making the 22 hour trip, I was greeted by my two friends, who were so generous enough to invite me. I was hosted by the most Beautiful couple. They welcomed me into their home for 3 weeks.

I was so scared to my Big Chop; I was afraid of what people were going say, how they would react at work, and how I would look.  But after making the decision to JUST DO IT, I swear things started happening. It's like the universe could see my new found confidence and this opportunity presented itself.  The best way to describe it was like EAT, PRAY, LOVE. I made this trip alone without my husband, a huge decision to travel to the other side of the world by myself. Of course he was supportive, but this was an awesome chance for me to focus on me. I learned to Meditate. The goal of meditation is to focus and quiet your mind, eventually reaching a higher level of awareness and inner calm.  As you grow more mature and learn to really get in touch with who you, I wonder am I living my best life?  The world is so much bigger than where you are, I am glad I am able to go and see it.

My living space while in India was relaxing and homie. My host resides in a two bedroom apartment with large windows that invited in the sun everyday. It was very nice and peaceful, but at night, I could hear the beeping of Tuk Tuks as the Indain winds flowed over my bed.

Decoration consisted of Gurus and family photos. Wooden furniture, marble floors and colorful fabrics. I was fascinated and thankful to be in the authentic native space.

Located on the 4th floor the view was of the streets Thane.  Thane, Maharashtra which is located about 30 minutes outside of the city.  From my window I could see the mountain in Sanjay Gandhi National Park.

Rod Set on Natural Hair

Winter is here Hunny! I saw the weather report last night which forecasted that the temperature was going to drop to 20 degrees.

I needed to do something to my head for work after being fro'd out over the weekend.

Since it was going to be cold today, I knew that I did not want to wash my hair and go out with wet hair. So I decided to do a Rod Set.

What you will need:
1. A spray bottle (I just used my Rose water)
2. Leave in Conditioner of your choice.
3. Gel of Choice
4. Hair Clips
5. Perm Rod Rolloers (I used Purple, Orange, & White)

Began by sectioning hair and detangle. Then take a part to roll and dab with a bit of Leave in Conditioner and the gel then smooth through to the ends.  Take Perm Rod, wrap and roll hair.

It should look like this.

It took me about 2 hours to Roll my whole head.

Since my hair was damp from spraying it in order to detangle, I slept in the rods to air dry.
The next morning I took down my hair. I oiled my fingers with some Coconut oil and separated my Kurls

Happy Kurlyversary!! (1yr Naturally Kurly)

I celebrated my 1 year Kurlyversary on Dec. 8th. To commemorate this milestone, I treated myself to a Blowout and Trim.

This past year has been truly an awesome experience.  Since my Big Chop my hair has grown so thick and healthy and my Kurls are simply Gorgeous!! During this past year I have colored my hair, but have not trimmed, just in an effort to see how long I could get it in a year.
Also, I waited until the Full Moon to trim my hair.  I do believe in the energy of the universe.

This week was the perfect week. I went in for my Trim and Style on December 17th, which was the "Full Moon in Gemini".  I thought, "Wow", this 1st year journey came right back to me.  I am a Gemini. For more information on Trimming according to the Moon visit www.hairbrained.me.

I called my friend and Stylist Mona, here's how it all went down.

We started with a Cleanse and Condition.
Then the Blowout!!

After Bow drying, she flat ironed my hair to trim.

She trimmed about an inch and a half to restore the ends. I do have layers, so if I want to go straight again, it will have shape.

Here's the finished look.

Thanks Mona, I love it.
Kurlies, I do recommend a Blowout at least twice a year for trimming and length check. My hair has really grown a lot since last December. I want to grow my hair as healthy as possible, so this was a great decision.

Happy Holidays Curlfriends!
